Ondine's curse after brainstem infarction.
This report describes a rare case of acquired Ondine's curse. The patient developed central sleep apnea syndrome named Ondine's curse after a brainstem infarction. Lesions involving the descending medullocervical pathways that subserve automatic breathing can result in this syndrome.
متن کاملBrainstem auditory evoked responses in brainstem infarction.
Brainstem auditory evoked responses (BAERs) were recorded in 40 patients with clinically definite brainstem infarction, and results were compared to localizations from physical signs and CT scans. The BAER was abnormal in 92% of patients with evidence on physical examination of dysfunction of lateral structures in the pons or midbrain. Normal BAERs were seen with medially-situated or medullary ...
متن کاملBrainstem and Deep Cerebral Infarction
MR imaging with IV administration of gadopentetate dimeglumine was performed in 89 patients with 100 clinically and radiologically documented brainstem or deep cerebral (basal ganglia/internal capsule) infarctions to determine the patterns and time course of contrast enhancement. By location, there were 61 deep cerebral, eight midbrain, 23 pontine, and eight medullary infarctions. The age of th...
متن کاملSpontaneous unilateral brainstem infarction in Swiss mice.
Spontaneous vestibular syndrome in mice, characterized clinically by head tilt, circling or rolling, can be caused by otitis media, arteritis or central nervous system lesions. Postmortem examination of eleven non-inbred Swiss mice submitted for necropsy due to acute onset of vestibular signs revealed lesions consistent with brainstem infarction. The lesions were characterized by unilateral, we...
متن کاملVenous infarction of brainstem and cerebellum.
The authors describe 2 cases of posterior fosa venous infarction. A 56-year-old woman with essential thrombocytemia presented with fluctuating complaints of headache, nausea, vomiting, left-sided numbness-weakness, and dizziness and became progressively stuporous. Cranial magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed bilateral parasagittal fronto-parietal and left cerebellar contrast-enhancing hemorr...
